Welcome to The Lunatic Assylum

No, it’s not misspelled.  Let me explain.

lunatic: (LOO’ na tik) n. 1. insane person, 2. a madman

asylum: (aSI’ lem) n. 1. sanctuary, protection for one pursued 2. a place that provides sanctuary

assylum*: (ass I’ lum) n1. a sanctuary for dumb asses who misspell asylum and write until their fingers bleed and their brains melt.

The Lunatic Assylum is a sanctuary for Timothy Hurley, writer, retired physician, loony. Feel safe here.  We’re all just trying to make it through the night and understand String Theory.

Writers and lunatics write about themselves in third person.  It’s a harmless custom.

The Peoria State Hospital for the Incurably Insane. Beautiful, right? I was born in a snow drift not far away.

There are eight million stories in the Naked City.  Many wake me in the middle of the night and demand to be written. I write short fiction, humor, sci fi/fantasy/horror.  Click Publications above to see a list. Click Books to see books you can buy.

Like all writers, I like my work to be read and I like hearing what readers feel about my work. I appreciate it when you tell your friends about my writing.  If you email me at thelunaticassylum@gmail.com the guards will make sure I get it. Or you can email me at timothyhurley44@gmail.com. I return all polite emails promptly.

  1. Hi Tim,
Glad to be home, at last!

    • All my friends at the Peoria State Hospital say welcome. Remember to stay in touch if you get any insights into String Theory.

      • It seems TOE is more than a digit on your foot — but, let your digits do the walking — through the backroads of your mind — all the way to a Theory of Everything (another kind of TOE)

You know what they say about theories and opinions ?

  2. I’m following you for that breakthrough in string theory. I’m not kidding.

    • Thank you, Krista. I wrote a short story, Professor Myshnakov’s Nightmare, that explains String Theory and the nature of reality. But I apparently don’t have it quite right, and no one will publish it. Revise, Revise, Revise.

  3. Hi Timothy! Liked you here! Indies Unlimited sent me! Hope you’re doing well!

  5. Haha, love it. Hi from IU,

  6. Hi Timothy – I have nominated you for a Liebster Award, see http://andymckell.com/2013/04/08/liebster-blog-awards/
    Keep up the good work!

  7. Hi, Timothy. I’m loving the theme for your blog! It’s very interesting.

  8. Somehow I’ve only just now found you. I must live under a rock. I like your site, and your writing, in fact I’m going to pick-up one of your books today. It’s lovely to follow a grown -up- even if he is a lunatic.

    • Thank you. The loonies are glad to have you as our honored guest. I hope to be worthy of your interest. Thank you for reading. Feel free to spread the word, I appreciate it.

  9. Finally, a place for the rest of us.
